Newsletter January 2012

I cannot believe that I am writing the first letter for 2012. Somehow it feels as if too much as happened for the year to be only one month old. January started with a fantastic bang at Blaauwklippen.

We joined celebrity chef Jenny Morris, for two days of shooting for her new television series for the Food Network. I must admit, I will stick to winemaking, although it is a glamorous life, behind the scenes everyone works very hard! We will keep you posted when the series will be televised, and we are very excited that Blaauwklippen and our wines can be part of it.

special treats for you and those you love at Blaauwklippen. By the time you read this letter we would be spreading the Zinfandel love with 300 other Zinfandel producers form all over the world at the Zinfandel Advocates & Producers Wine Festival taking place at the end of January in San Francisco. This annual celebration of America’s Heritage Wine will make a major splash with wine lovers worldwide and we are proud to once again be the only representative from the Southern Hemisphere. I expect we will come back Zinspired!

Last year we hosted our first Rosé Sunset Day, for those who are young and young at heart. The event is aimed at students, our way to welcome them back to Stellenbosch. Join us on the 10th of February from 15h00 – 21h00 and seeing that it is the month of love we will be creating a romantic atmosphere with fairy lights, lanterns and torches and great music. There will also be food and soft drinks besides the range of Blaauwklippen wines available with some interactive competitions and prizes for all to win. The entrance fee is R20 per person and includes a Blaauwklippen glass.

Treat the one you love to our decadent five course Valentine’s Day dinner; for R325 per person, you can expect an Amuse of Beetroot & Feta Mousse, a starter of smoked ostrich & rocket salad complemented by pineapple crisps, peppadews & masala spiced macadamia nuts with mini pineapple-coconut samoosas.

family market

We started the New Year at the market with a Doggy Walk in aid of the Helderberg Animal Welfare Society. It is great fun to see all the different breeds and owners coming out for a day of fun and supporting this worthy charity. This walk is proving to become very popular and we will host another one on the 19th of February. The fee is R20 for you and your furry friend – only one dog allowed per person. If you do not own a dog, but would like to support this worthy charity, you can walk the route for R10. All proceeds will go to Helderberg Animal Welfare. For more information and bookings, contact Moira at 021 852 2268 or Nicky at 021 856 0597.

We will also be hosting a special Valentines themed market on the 12th of February. Be sure to pop in and browse for something for that special person in your life.

If you are a fan of Blues, visit us on the 19th as Gerald Clark will be entertaining us with his smooth voice and love for the genre.

Our featured trader for the month is the Thüringer Butchery. Wolfgang and Ines Giese came from the province of Thueringia in Germany to South Africa intending to produce and market the original “Thüringer Rostbratwurst” here. The demand for his products prompted Wolfgang to expand his product spectrum. Presently, except for the Rostbratwurst, he also produces patés, salami, ham and many tasty sausage and many other specialties, made according to traditional and original recipes, without additives or artificial ingredients.

Be sure to visit them at the market for a delicious Bratwurst on a roll. You can even place an order with them and collect it the following week at the market.

I look forward in seeing you all at the market on Sunday’s from 10h00 – 15h00. To stay up to date with news on the market, like us on Facebook; Blaauwklippen Vineyards Family Market or follow us on Twitter @MarketArchitect.
