THE FIRST PICK
What a magical time to work on a wine farm! Yes, we are harvesting and you can smell the grape fragrance in the air. We have picked our first grapes of the 2014 harvest on Wednesday the 12th of February. These grapes may very well be used for a special wine release to celebrate our 333rd anniversary next year, but let’s not spoil the surprise, we will keep you posted!

BLENDING & A BEAUTIFUL
COLLECTOR'S BOX
It is time for the battle of the blends again and registration opens on Monday the 17th of March. This year marks the 31st Blaauwklippen Blending Competition (BBC) and it is the first year that all entries will be done online. The winning blend will be bottled under the Blaauwklippen Barouche label, designed by well-known artist Frans Groenewald and recognition will be given to the successful wine club on the back label. The winning club and three finalists also win other great prizes, including wine, return airfares to Cape Town and accommodation for the weekend of the prize giving, as well as glassware from Vitria. The winner will be announced at Blaauwklippen at a luncheon on Friday the 5th of September.

All 2014 entrants will receive a selection of four unwooded wines, namely: Malbec 2013, Shiraz 2013, Zinfandel 2013 and Cabernet Franc form the 2012 vintage. The challenge to the clubs is to create a consumer friendly, everyday, easy-drinking, juicy, modern red blend – a wine with great balance and freshness which can be enjoyed with or without a meal.

A minimum of three of the four base wines must be used in the final blend and Cabernet Franc has to be one of the chosen wines, limited to a maximum of 15% of the final product.

For more information visit www.blaauwklippen.com or contact Natalie at blending@blaauwklippen.com. Cost per hamper: R190.

In the spirit of the Blending Competition you can now purchase this beautiful collector’s box of six winning blends, bottled in magnums (1.5 Litre) for R699 per box. This is a saving of R165 on the original retail price and stock is limited. The wines in this collection are the winning blends of the 25th – 30th annual Blending Competitions. A perfect gift for the winelover. Order your box here.

BLAAUWKLIPPEN FAMILY MARKET
WEEKLY AFFAIR
Three years ago, in March we hosted the very first Blaauwklippen market, this was a monthly affair that soon grew in popularity and in October of 2011 we decided to welcome you at Blaauwklippen weekly. We are celebrating the third anniversary of the existence of the market with great gratitude, thank you for
your loyal support! It is also a special month as there
are five Sundays in March giving us some extra market time together.

PETER WYNESS
We kick off the month on the 2nd of March with a performance by Peter Wyness. His last performance at the market was a triumph and he is
back by popular demand. The Cape Town Street Rod Club is also visiting us on the 2nd with around 15 of their cars, weather permitting.
LIZA MYNHARDT
We welcome back Lize Mynhardt on the 9th of March, she blew away the guests with her amazing voice at her last performance and we are looking forward to see what she has in store for us.

ST. PATRICK'S DAY
St. Patrick's Day fell on a Sunday last year and we hosted our first St Patrick's Day themed market. It was a great success and a lot of patrons (even dogs!) arrived dressed in green. This year St Patrick's Day falls on Monday the 17th
but we decided that we will be celebrating it on Sunday the 16th of March and invited Shenanigans, The Cape's top Irish Band as well as Irish Colleens to perform to their music. This day also marks our monthly Vineyard Doggy Walk in
aid of Helderberg Animal Welfare.
NEWTON THERON
Market favourite, Newton Theron will be performing on the 23rd of March. Lately a violinist has been accompanying him for a few songs making his performance even more memorable.

A VINTAGE EXPERIENCE
On Sunday the 30th of March, we welcome "The Vintage Experience" to
the market for our Vintage Day. Expect twelve
"Vintage stalls" ranging from vintage clothing for ladies and gents, accessories to furniture. The Cape Cobra Car Club will also be at the market showing off some of their cars. Do join us, there will be something for everybody regardless of age and gender. Gerald Clark will be performing live on
the day to add to the vintage atmosphere.
