Wine and food pairings always lead to lively discussions and so it was last week at Longridge Wine Estate and Restaurant when two chefs and four wineries got together to preview a selection of the wine and canapé pairings planned for the 2014 Seasons of Flavour event, which takes place on Thursday, 6 November from 5-9pm at Longridge Estate.
Nine gourmet food items were tasted with sixteen wines from Longridge Estate, Lyngrove, Ken Forrester Wines and Avontuur Estate under the expert tutelage of vivacious culinary consultant Marilou Marais Ferreira and prepared by resident chef Bruce von Pressentin and his team.
Wines like the Ken Forrester BushvineChenin Blanc, the Longridge Chardonnay, the LyngroveChenin Blanc and the Avontuur Pinot Noir/Chardonnay Sparkling wine were winners with more than one of the dishes where the rich, buttery mushroom tart really only paired well with a full-bodied Shiraz like the Avontuur Dominion Royale. Another perfect match was the lamb kebab with rosemary and garlic with the Longridge flagship red blend Ekliptika, whilst the exquisitely presented Red Salad worked well with the Lyngrove Sauvignon Blanc 2014, which is fresh and crisp.
“Although even the experts couldn’t agree on every pairing, we did reach consensus eventually and now it’s up to the guests on the evening to make up their own minds,” says organisorBjörn van Oort of CVO Marketing.
