Welcome to 2013
It is 2013 and at Blaauwklippen we are excited to welcome a New Year that will be filled with good times and wonderful wines! The year kicks off with a bang with the new look Stellenbosch Wine Festival taking place from 25 January until 3 February.
The festival coincides with the historic diary entry made by Jan van Riebeeck on 2 February 1659 reading: "Today, praise be to God, wine was made for the first time from Cape grapes."
A festival highlight will be the Blessing of the Harvest and a Harvest Parade on Saturday, 26 January, as celebrants from Stellenbosch member farms are expected to march through the streets. Join us on the 2nd of February for a Blaauwklippen Family Festival Night Market from 16:00 – 21:00. The main event of this market will be the live performance of Gerald Clark and the DeadMen. Interesting crafts, fashion, lifestyle products, great food and of course our award winning wines will be on sale.
For more information about the wine festival, please visit: www.stellenboschwinefestival.co.za, or phone (+27) 21 886 4310.
A choice of taste
As part of the above celebrations, we will be hosting a DeZINe Dine on Saturday evening, 26 January, where patrons can design their own dinner at our Barouche Restaurant. Choose from four sumptuous starters as well as delicious desserts and DeZINe your own main course plate from the list of items provided. Because Blaauwklippen is widely regarded as the South African market leader when it comes to the production of Zinfandel all courses will be paired with your pick of our classic, sophisticated Red Zinfandel, our decadent Noble Late Harvest and our White Zinfandel that made history in 2007 by becoming the first white style Zinfandel in South Africa.
You have a choice of any one of the proteins, two types of vegetables, one starch and any sauce to create your very own ‘zinspired’ menu. Booking essential.

Straight from us to you!
Staying with Zinfandel, our 2011 White Zinfandel will be available from the beginning of this month at R95 per bottle. This full bodied Zinfandel Blanc de Noir, with its rich old gold colour was made from whole bunch pressed grapes and has a juicy mouth feel.
The wine can be enjoyed immediately but has an ageing potential of up to five years. Serve chilled while enjoying summer sunsets.
Blast from the past
We are looking forward to an exciting year ahead with some interesting themes and events at the market. The first market that took place on the 6th of January looked back at the decade known for its weird fashion and hair styles but excellent music. Yes, you guessed it…the 80’s! Traders dressed up in their best (worst) 80’s clothes and a live musician entertained visitors with some popular hits from this decade.
A taste of Litchi
Litchi lovers make a note of visiting the market on the 13th as we will celebrate this sweet summery fruit. Food traders will incorporate this juicy fruit into at least one food item on their menu.
Vineyard Doggy Walk
Be sure to support the Helderberg Animal Welfare society on the 20th at our monthly Vineyard Doggy Walk. Entry is R20 per person and dog or R10 per person only. The walk will start at 09h00 and all the proceeds will go towards this worthy charity.
A great start to 2013
Join us on the 27th for a relaxed end to the first month of the New Year with live music, delicious food, arts & crafts and much more, perfect to forget about that “first month of the year” blues.
Wishing you a magical 2013!!
