FRUITS OF OUR LABOUR

As I am writing this harvest has started in full swing at Blaauwklippen. It is such an exciting time of the year, as we pick the fruits of our efforts of the past year. A very satisfying feeling!

TASTING IN STELLENBOSCH
To share in some of the Stellenbosch magic, visit us at the Stellenbosch Wine Route Street Soirées, taking place on 11th and 25th March. This fun pop-up wine and food tasting event transforms the lower part of Drosdty Street (just off Church Street) into a culinary haven.

Cost: R50 per person including a wine glass and a ticket to taste as many wines as there are on offer on that evening. Street Soirées start at 6pm and runs until 8pm.

ART IN MARCH
As a run up to the final art exhibition and competition to celebrate our 333rd birthday, we reached out to local primary and high schools as a community initiative donating 33 canvasses, as well as art supplies to six Stellenbosch schools. The judging took place during February and the winner hailed from Idas Valley Primary School.

Congratulations to Jane Wanza who received R3000 worth of art supplies for her school, a R300 cash prize, certificate as well as R300 worth of art supplies. The top 9 pieces are on display in our Tasting Room.

SOME ACTION FOR A GOOD CAUSE
On Saturday 14th of March we are again hosting the 7th annual Senecio Fun Run/Walk/Wheel in aid of children with physical disabilities. A thousand participants show their support annually by taking part in this event. Runners or walkers can choose between a 10km or 5km route through our vineyards, while wheelchair-users have access to a less bumpy 5km route.

Senecio is a non-profit organisation based in Somerset West that offers therapeutic intervention and support to children with physical disabilities in under-privileged areas.

Entry is R80 for the 10km and R50 for the 5km race. Online registrations are available at www.senecio.org.za or www.iqela-events.co.za.

Registrations on the day opens at 6am.

WOORDFEES
The annual University of Stellenbosch Woordfees ("festival of the word") takes place from 6th to 15th March 2015 in Stellenbosch; this is an Art Festival featuring South African artists, musicians, public speakers and dramatists. The festival is not all about “words” though! The visual arts are an integral part of the Woordfees and the Blaauwklippen Art Festival of 2015 will provide visitors with their full 16 ounces of sustenance for the eye and the soul. We are the main sponsor for the Blaauwklippen Dream Mile.

There are 9 Art galleries on the route that people visit and on the 7th of March is the opening of all the Galleries for Woordfees where we will host a small tasting at each art gallery. During the Woordfees our Bistro will participate in "Die Burgeroorlog" were we have a Woordfees burger on the menu for R55. For more information about Woordfees, please visit: www.sun.ac.za

COME VISIT FOR THE CABERNET
...AND SOME FIZZ!
Blaauwklippen is renowned for red wine and our Cabernet Sauvignon has garnered a cult following over the years. Made in an accessible style, it is gently matured in large oak vats, which create a smooth, well-structured wine with whiffs of vanilla, mocha chocolate and red berry fruit with underlying notes of cigar box. It can be enjoyed immediately or cellared for 5 years.

We are selling the 2011 vintage of the Blaauwklippen Cultivar Selection Cabernet Sauvignon at R69 per bottle and during March you receive one bottle free for every twelve bottles purchased at the cellar door.

They say good things come to those who wait. Thank you for waiting patiently for the new release of the popular Ons Sprankel Pétillant Rosé that is now back in stock after being sold out since Christmas.

Ons Sprankel sells for R78 per bottle.

FAMILY MARKET
DAVE PFUHL
We kick off the new month on the 1st when we welcome a new musician to our Market. Dave Pfuhl was referred to us by the resident musician at the Bistro, Stuart. Dave has been on the music scene for about 30 years. He is a one man band of note, who uses a bass pedal, a drum box and even a harmonica. His repertoire consists of hits from the 70s which include artists such as The Beatles, The Doors, The Rolling Stones and even adds some popular Latin American songs to his selection of the old favourites!

ANTIQUE FAIR
We also welcome the Gregorian Antique Fair which will be back inside the carriage museum, the perfect opportunity to browse around and discover treasures form yesteryear.

NEWTON THERON
A Market regular and favourite, Newton Theron, is back for another day of awesome music on the 8th of March.

ST PATRICK'S DAY
Dress up in your best Irish green on the 15th when we are hosting our 3rd annual St Patrick's Day themed market. Cape Town's top Irish Band, Shenanigans, will be bringing the sound of the Emerald Isle to the heart of the Cape Winelands. No true St Patrick's Day celebration is ever complete without a pint of the amber liquid – a sip of beer! If it is beer you're after, the market is the place to be with our variety of local craft beers which we have on offer. The 15th is also the 3rd Sunday of the month, which means its time for the monthly Vineyard Doggy Walk in Aid of the Helderberg Animal Welfare Society.. Please join them.

SVEN BLUMER
We will be welcoming yet another new musician to the Market on the 22nd. Although Sven Blumer has played at the Market in the past along with Gerald Clark, we have asked him to do a solo performance. Sven will be performing a selection of acoustic blues and folk songs, covering artists such as Jason Mraz, John Mayer and Jack Johnson.

GERALD CLARK
Back by popular demand on the 29th is Gerald Clark. For those who do not know him, Gerald is a very accomplished folk and blues artist. He has the ability to create a vibrant atmosphere at the Market with his laid back style of music - perfect for a relaxing Sunday with family and friends.

I leave you with one of my favourite quotes, especially meaningful during this harvest of joy: "Wine to me is passion. It's family and friends. It's warmth of heart and generosity of spirit. Wine is art. It's culture. It's the essence of civilization and the art of living." -
Robert Mondavi, Autobiography, "Harvests of Joy".
