Blaauwklippen’s Stellenbosch estate embodies heritage and innovation, crafting wines that capture South Africa’s spirit and showcase the estate’s pioneering role as the first registered company and first founded wine estate in winemaking history

Blaauwklippen has long been recognised as a Stellenbosch estate where tradition and innovation intersect. In 1977, we introduced South Africa’s first Zinfandel vineyards, setting a precedent for pioneering viticulture. Three years later, our inaugural vintage reflected this bold vision, reinforcing our standing as the country’s first registered company. Today, we remain one of only three South African producers keeping the Zinfandel story alive. To engage wine enthusiasts further, we created the Blaauwklippen Blending Competition in 1984, the first of its kind in South Africa.

This annual event invites participants to step into a winemaker’s role, discovering the artistry of blending in a setting defined by heritage and passion. For Blaauwklippen, wine is not only about cultivation but also about fostering a deeper connection with Stellenbosch’s terroir and South Africa’s wine culture.
