ABOUT US

discover the estate

Blaauwklippen is the oldest wine farm in Stellenbosch and proudly holds the distinction of being the first registered company in South Africa. Rooted in rich heritage and driven by innovation, Blaauwklippen crafts exceptional wines that capture the true spirit of South Africa while reflecting its pioneering legacy in the country’s winemaking history.

Blaauwklippen has long been recognised as a Stellenbosch estate where tradition and innovation intersect. In 1977, we introduced South Africa’s first Zinfandel vineyards, setting a precedent for pioneering viticulture. Three years later, our inaugural vintage reflected this bold vision, reinforcing our standing as the country’s first registered company. Today, we remain one of only three South African producers keeping the Zinfandel story alive. To engage wine enthusiasts further, we created the Blaauwklippen Blending Competition in 1984, the first of its kind in South Africa.

This annual event invites participants to step into a winemaker’s role, discovering the artistry of blending in a setting defined by heritage and passion. For Blaauwklippen, wine is not only about cultivation but also about fostering a deeper connection with Stellenbosch’s terroir and South Africa’s wine culture.
