The Jonkershuis, constructed around 1720, is one of Blaauwklippen’s oldest surviving buildings. It has played many roles over the centuries as a family home and later a farm school classroom. Today, the Jonkershuis is part of the estate’s premier accommodation offerings, revealing a glimpse into Blaauwklippen’s long and rich heritage for residing guests.
The Manor House, built initially in 1760, serves as the heart of the estate. Featuring Cape Dutch architecture and an underground wine cellar, it stands as a testament to Stellenbosch’s time-honoured winemaking traditions.
In April 2024, a fire, fuelled by gale-force winds, swept through Blaauwklippen, damaging some of its landmark buildings, including the Jonkershuis, Manor House, and Glass Cathedral, a popular wedding venue.
In the months that followed, the estate’s restoration efforts began. The rebuilding process has focused on preserving these structures’ original character with care and craftsmanship while incorporating modern comforts to elevate the guest experience.
After 19 months of restoration, Blaauwklippen is set to reopen the Manor House and Jonkershuis in December 2025. Their return marks an important milestone in the estate’s ongoing story: honouring its legacy while welcoming a new era of celebration and hospitality as a premier wedding venue in Stellenbosch.
