Blaauwklippen is widely regarded as the South-African market leader when it comes to the production of Zinfandel, a grape varietal that enjoys immense popularity in the USA.
The 6th annual Blaauwklippen International Zinfandel tasting took place at the Raddison Blu Hotel in Cape Town on Thursday 7 March 2013. Media and wine trade were treated to a ZInfadnel tasting followed by a Zinfandel inspired lunch, created by executive chef, Grant Kennedy.
This year Blaauwklippen’s cellar master, Rolf Zeitvogel focussed on Australian Zinfandel examples.
- The wines included in the tasting were:
- Cape Mentelle 2010
- Cargo Road 2010
- Smallwater Estate 2009
- Peel Estate 2007 as well as the
- Blaauwklippen Zinfandel Reserve
“Zinfandel is a unique selling point for Blaauwklippen, and we are committed to build on the legacy that was left to us by Walter Finalyson and his team, when they planted the very first Zinfandel vines on the farm in the late seventies.” says Rolf.
The Blaauwklippen Zinfandel portfolio includes three products: A classic, sophisticated red wine, a noble late harvest and a white Zinfandel that made history in 2007 by becoming the first white style Zinfandel in South Africa.
